Above photo:  the Pilot Bay Lighthouse was in operation from about 1905 to 1993.  Although no longer lit, it remains open year round to locals and tourists It is one of several local historical hikes accessed from Pilot Bay Road. 

Fishing

  • Kootenay Lake supports many species of game fish:  Gerard Rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, Kokanee salmon and Whitefish

  • Kootenay Lake does not freeze - the winter months are especially good

  • The PBR store sells fishing licenses, tackle and bait

  • In addition to lake tours, Pilot Bay Resort offers half and  full day charters for divers and anglers

Swimming/Beach

Pilot Bay Resort offers a wonderful waterfront area for children.  Shallow waters and soft sands create endless hours of fun:

  • private beach surrounded by breakwater

  • floating raft

  • separated from docks

  • separate swim area for dogs

 

 

 

      Winter Activities

Pilot Bay Resort is open March to December, with advance bookings for the Chalets only during November and December.   In addition to year round attractions, winter activities include; snowmobiling in undiscovered territory, cross country skiing and tobogganing along the golf course and downhill skiing in Nelson.
